This place screams rape den, and yet it’s so very awesome.I accompanied my sister to New York City today, as moral support for her JET interview. We were talking about Japan, and trying to find a place in NYC that had Japanese-style karaoke (read: private rooms). In our search we stumbled across this place, but we didn’t have the time to stop in (I later found out they have a 9 person minimum on Fridays anyways). It’s called iBop, it’s near the Korean area by Penn Station, and it sounds absolutely ridiculous. I’m linking it here so I remember to try and hit it up the next time I’m in NYC with a decent-size group.
With six packs in hand, 3 lovely young women walked up to an APARTMENT building and rang the middle buzzer. 3 flights up we knocked on the locked door and were let into what seemed to be an apartment in which every used-to-be bedroom was converted into a dark and grody private karaoke room. I’m not sure what the other rooms were like but ours had sunken in leather couches, bright and merry disco lights and a wall sized karaoke screen.
