Matthew McGlone, a psychologist at the University of Texas, has found that auditory cues can shape people’s perception of truth. McGlone did a study in which he presented subjects with a series of unfamiliar aphorisms either in rhyming or nonrhyming form: “Woes unite foes,” for example, versus “Woes unite enemies.” He found that people tended to see the rhyming ones as more accurate than the nonrhyming ones, despite the fact that, substantively, the two were identical.

This is my lady. I love her with all my heart. There are things about us that are different. Very different. But I love her for the person she is. We don’t love each other based on our respective tastes (I don’t mean actual, physical taste, I mean culture-wise, asshole), or because of each other’s accomplishments. We admire each other, we learn from each other, and we are constantly trying to make each other’s day brighter. That’s been the formula for my sanity and joviality for the past seven and a half years, and hopefully it will remain that way for a long time to come.

I’ve lucked out in so many ways, but all I want to say is this:
Don’t spend your life looking for a girl/guy that likes The Smiths as much as you do. Spend it finding a person whom you can make smile, and whose smile radiates waves that exterminate the suck in your life.

This is a short monologue I had to write and perform for a class.

A big thanks to Kenny Black who was in the audience and shoot this video on his iPhone. Despite the fact that I performed this 11 hours into a 12-hour school day after pulling an all-nighter, this was definitely one of the bright spots during the hell that is finals week.

The whole thing is based off of a concept for a super secret new web series I’m working on, so be sure to stay tuned if you’d like to see more.

Dirty Projectors Performing in The Roots’ Dressing Room - @questlove

Two months ago, following their performance of When the World Comes to an End on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon [video], Dirty Projectors wooed Questlove and The Roots by doing an acoustic version of the song backstage. The video ends with the two groups talking about the possibility of performing together at some point in the near future.

On November 22, the The Roots joined Dirty Projectors for two songs at a gig in New York, at a show which featured many other surprises, including an onstage appearance by David Byrne. Three days later, Amber Coffman and Haley Dekle of Dirty Projectors joined The Roots back on the set of Late Night [video] to perform with Mos Def and Talib Kweli. Jesus.

Best alliance in late night, wayohh.

This morning I woke up to find this on my phone. My immediate reaction was that some crazy hacker had kidnapped my girlfriend and was holding her for ransom (and possibly for baking). Then I realized that last night, half-awake, I used Sketches to make this my iPhone’s wallpaper so that I’d remember to call her first thing in the morning like I promised. Though in my delusional, semi-conscious state, I was legitimately scared for a second.
